Girona is one of the world capitals of road cycling. This is our practical guide to riding here while sleeping in the Barri Vell (Old Town), with your bike stored inside your own apartment.

Why is Girona a cycling capital?
For more than twenty years Girona has been the European base for many professional riders. The reasons are the same ones you'll find: quiet, well-surfaced back roads, climbs within touching distance of the city, a mild climate most of the year and a genuine cycling culture, with cycling cafés, shops and specialist workshops a few minutes' walk from the Old Town.
The three classic routes, from the door
Els Àngels
About 20 km to the sanctuary. A steady, friendly climb, the warm-up classic for locals. You roll out from the Old Town, no car needed.
Rocacorba
About 21 km to the foot of the climb. The area's benchmark fitness test: long, demanding, with a serious final ramp. Dinner in the Old Town tastes all the better that evening.
Sant Grau
About 34 km to the col, heading towards the sea. It mixes inland roads with the Costa Brava, and can be extended along the coast if your legs are willing.
Where does the bike go? Inside your home
No shared storage room, no distant garage: every apartment has indoor space for your bike, and the building has a lift to every floor. It comes up with you, stays where you can see it, and next morning you're out of the door and riding.
Practical tips
- Cyclist's breakfast: in and around the Old Town there are cafés built for cyclists, open from early morning.
- Mechanics and spares: Girona has first-rate specialist bike shops and workshops, most of them a short spin from the centre.
- Coming by car: we have an arrangement with a car park about 50 metres from the building. Message us with your dates and we'll confirm.
- Season: spring and autumn are the best months. In summer, start early. In winter, Girona stays rideable most days.
